Gisborne Boys High start College Rugby Fortnight
Gisborne Boys High School 1st XV were hosted by the club, using the facilities, training area and equipment and spent time with our CCO Darren Larsen along with the Premiers and the coaches of our 2 top teams. Gisborne BHS played the curtain-raiser for the Hurricanes - Chiefs match last week and lost a close encounter to St. Pats Silverstream 21-13 after being tied up 13-13 at half time.
We were impressed by this group of young men who were excellent Ambassadors for their High School - all the very best for the season ahead and what ever the future holds.
The WRFU has begun an initiative that starts this weekend to encourage younger players to "Stay in the Game." In an effort to bring Clubs and Colleges closer together St. Bernards College and Mana College First XV's will play in the curtain raiser before our Under 21 Colts White team take on Upper Hutt in their Paris Memorial Trophy game at the Rec. this weekend.
A press release from the WRFU provides the details of the round which has Victor Vito and Conrad Smith playing lead roles in the promotion.

Very Memorable POFF's Night
The first POFF's night for 2013 attracted a large and at times "rowdy" crowd to remember the successes of the 1993 Jubilee Cup and Hardham Cup winning teams and to pay tribute to All Black and Petone Legend, Bob Scott. Photos of the evening are now in the Gallery.
The Jubilee Cup winning team was coached by Frank Walker and President, Richard Whittington. Dave Ryan and Graham Ward were Manager and strapper, respectively. The Senior Div 1 / Premier Div 2 Team coaches were Peter Green and the late Gareth Head. Mike (Double "O") Woollett managed the team while Peter Pritchard was the strapper.
Petone Centurion plaques were presented to Richard Devery, Andy and Martin Leslie.
The Mike Whatman DVD collection (2 of which feature Bob Scott) are available through the office at $10 per DVD. The whole collection of 17 DVD's can be bought for $120. The collection is a fabulous oral history of the PRFC and the characters that have made the club what it is today.
