125th Year off to Interesting Start

The festive season has come and gone and hopefully everyone is refreshed and ready for what promises to be a busy and challenging year ahead.

Since the AGM in November there have been significant changes to the club behind the scenes. Bryan Yeoman, after a number of years as Chairman during a period that he himself rightly calls the “Golden Decade”, has stood down. We thank Bryan for all the work he has done and the contributions he has made to this club. Bryan has been temporarily replaced by Malcolm Larsen.

There is also change with “Samurai Sportswear” on board as our gear supplier in 2010, a relationship that will eventually see all our teams playing in Samurai gear and the shop revamped with an exciting range of apparel.

The club is grateful for all the grants it receives, however this year will be challenging as like last year's Jubilee Cup semi we have come up a little short with a recent application. Little would be slightly understated in this case, but with good management and a positive attitude we are sure we can overcome this hurdle.

On the positive side we can announce that "Randwick Meats" has renewed their contract with Petone Rugby Football Club as our major sponsor for 2010. This support is invaluable to the club going forward and we can only hope the players can now fulfil Ray Fleetwood’s wish of Jubilee Cup success in our 125th Year.

Our first big event is PETONEMAN 2010 coming up on the 13th February. This is open to everyone and we encourage you all to enter. Simply go to the PETONEMAN page on this website and fill in the online registration form.

Preseason training is now in full swing every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm and everyone is invited to attend. With the possibility of eleven teams this year there is a spot for everyone. Contact Club Captain Glen Tapara on 021 904 590 or the club on 568 6270 for further information.

The Senior club has finalised its preseason programme which will kick off with our Ken Gray Academy and Premier Squads visiting Christchurch on the first weekend in March for two matches each. This will be followed by home games against Poneke on the 13th, Fielding Yellows on the 20th and MSP on the 27th.

Of course the big event of the year is the 125th Celebrations on the 7th, 8th and 9th May. It is still not too late to register, but please do so straight away. Numbers are fast approaching the maximum we can handle, so please register now so we can make allowance for numbers. The registration is also online under 125th Anniversary.
