Ceilidh a Hit

Zinny has been adamant that the visit from his Scottish compatriots would be one to remember and they didn't disappoint.

With the Scotland - Argentina game being rescheduled to Wellington, kilted Scotsmen of all shapes, sizes and tartans invaded the club and made it home for the entire weekend.

In the wee small hours of sunday morning (with locals hanging out to get to bed) the final rounds of photos were being taken and just as we thought it was over, the Scots left us in NO doubt just what Scotsmen wear under their kilts.

Sunday afternoon was no-less hectic and the local Scottish Community led a fabulous Ceilidh. I think the great thing about this is that all of the Scottish lads joined in as did a number of our own members and their partners - a wonderful way to enjoy each others company, learn something about another culture and to have fun together in a safe and friendly environment. The other thing that impressed me about this is the complete respect the Scots have for this part of their culture - something we can learn a lot from.

Visitors Joe and Carole MacLaren from North Berwick made special mention of the local dancers saying that they were exceptional in their style and very correct. Murray Blandford also noticed among the group, New Zealand Olympian, Penny Hunt who still looks as though she could run the legs off a few of our guys!

A weekend that will linger in the memory for a long while to come.
