Premier Coaches 2012 Announced
5 November 2011
The Randwick Meats Petone Rugby Club pulled a major surprise with the naming of successful Northern United coaching duo Frank Rees and Tom Martin as their 2012 Premier Coaching team.
The Wellington 2010 Coach of the Year, Frank Rees is a former Jubilee Cup winner as a player with Poneke and has coached the Norths club to two Jubilee Cup wins and five Swindale Shield successes.
Rees has taken on this new challenge outside of his comfort zone, with a burning ambition to coach at ITM Cup level and points to the promotion of Richard Watt to the Lions position as an indicator that the “Old-School Club Coach” still has a chance in the game.
His choice of Petone comes with a huge respect of our tradition and history and a deep respect of an always tough opponent.
Englishman Tom Martin is a Level 4 IRB coach who comes with a huge analytical background with coaching experience at South and Mid Canterbury Unions before arriving in Wellington as a CCO at the Wests club.
His job as a teacher at Wellington College and as an Age Grade Representative coach gives him a good over view of potential players in the Wellington area.
It will be a case of straight to work with skill sessions for all players to be held Thursday 3rd November at North Park - be ready for a 6pm start. Both Tom and Frank will be in attendance and are keen to see as many players as possible attending so they can identify what talent is available to them for the up-coming season.
The Club welcomes Frank and Tom and wish them well with the role they have been tasked with.
