Sen 1s Gelling Quite Nicely

  • 5 May 2012
  • Senior 1st vs Paremata-Plimmerton
  • WIN, 29-22

The difficulty when writing these reports is trying to keep the subject bright and interesting while incorporating what were or might have been the interesting points or statistics of the game.

Pare-Plim had a fresh young look about them and were ready for the encounter. They didn't ever look worried or apprehensive in their approach to us, in fact underawed might be a better term. They certainly weren't slow to have a crack at beating us up when the opportunity permitted. Fortunately it was a storm we weathered with poise and diginity with the bottom line telling the final story. That said the game wasn't without twists and turns. We started well and were 24-3 up with 2 mintues to go before half time when we let in a soft try that gave them a little credibility and a helping of self belief.

Fortunately we weathered the onslaught and defended well, with vigour and determination. To be fair we brought a lot of problems on ourselves by dropping more balls than a vet on castration duty. Most of the problem was created by us trying to push passes in 50-50 situations rather than applying a little patience. Obviously we have a few guys amongst us who have yet to hear the story about the old bull and the young bull but the upside is we are getting better each time we play together and are gelling quite nicely, thankyou.

STARLIST

Sos - A standout performance from the big guy. Was in the game from start to finish and never let up. My forward for the day.

Will - Very mobile and active around the track, gave his best

Joe - Like a bathroom light switch, spent more time off than on

Johnny C - Won us bucketloads of ball and lead us as well. Never far from the action be it attack or defence.

Booker T - Looked a bit uncomfy from early on. Still a fair contribution

Luke - Action Man. Attacks his game with enthusiam and purpose. Isn't ever going to die wondering

Sosaia - Another position change, what can't this man do? A postive contribution

Cam - Gave a try away and then got one back so not a bad day at the office

Carne - Kept the info going into the pack to help keep us gong forward. No shortage of attitude here

Brad - Kept the ball in front of us and fed out good quality ball. Good Organiser

Blaise - Still growing into the position. Sometimes a little tentative. Trust your size, speed and ability

Sam - I was thinking of renaming him Blizzard as he was getting left out in the cold so much. Relished the chances to use the ball and gave us 2 tries. My back of the day

Chad - Some good bits in there. Maybe that elusive try is just around the corner

Ostrich - A stonger outing this week. Had a couple of cracks up the line. Got a date next week with the Tui Girls

Sterlo - It would be good to see what Jak could do from a set piece. Fulback is the best attacking position in the sport

Taylor - Had to take his battered body into battle again for the cause, what a guy!

Chris W - Took up the cungels for a limping Booker T. An impact player worthy of the name

Tom Pere - Went out for a damaged Nugget. We are blessed with capable talent

Tommy W - Back after a lay off for an injured joe. Always positive input

Jake, Alex + Johnny M - The team can't function without guys like these. Positivity plus

HEADSUP

Next week we play Norths on their home track. One of Wellingtons best in my opinion. These guys love to biff it around and will be a test for our resolve in defence. Looking at the stats their points for would suggest that they score a few tries but their points against say they also leak a few. If we harden up a bit more in defence and are more controlled and patient in our attack there is no reason why we can't come home smiling again.
